This concert, promoted in association with the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, will raise funds towards the establishment of an award in memory of the oboist Neil Black OBE, who was Musical Director of the Kirckman Concert Society for many years. The award will be presented annually by the Trust to an outstanding woodwind player to support their postgraduate studies as they move towards a musical career.

Details of the Neil Black Award and the work of the Trust can be found at: www.munstertrust.org.uk/neil-black-award

Towards the end of his highly distinguished playing career, Neil devoted more and more time to helping and supporting talented young musicians. As Artistic Director of the Kirckman Concert Society and Artistic Advisor & Patron to the Tunnell Trust, drawing on his wealth of experience, he inspired them with his wisdom, humour and extraordinary generosity of spirit. The Neil Black Award will provide a valuable legacy for future generations of woodwind players and keep alive memories of a great musician and wonderful man.
